Sport Equipment

The transportation of sport equipments and special baggage is subject to specific conditions.

If you book your flights online and you wish to take sport equipment or special baggage with you, please contact our reservation center at the end of your purchase. You will need to provide us with your reservation number and to indicate the type of equipment concerned by your request.

Remark: the rates mentioned below are only applicable on Icelandair flights. In case you are travelling partially with another airline, please contact the airline which operates the flight directly.

“SMALL” baggage:

• Bicycles

To prepare the transportation of your bicycle in the best conditions:

• place your bicycle in a protective packaging (cardboard box, resistant plastic)
• turn the handlebars along the bike’s frame
• remove pedals and other striking parts
• reduce the pressure in tires.
• Protected packaging should be provided by yourself.

Golf Equipment

Golf equipment may include a golf bag with clubs, balls and a pair of golf shoes. The franchise maximum weight authorized for golf equipment is 25 kg. It may be included as part of your free baggage allowance on your flights from Europe towards USA/Canada, as one of the 2 pieces of authorized baggage.

Water Skiing and Skiing Equipment

One pair of skis, one pair of ski sticks, boots, one pair of standard water skis or one snowboard. It may be included as part of your free baggage allowance.

Fishing Equipment

One bait box, angler bag or basket, and one fishing rod, bag or box.
It may be included as part of your free baggage allowance.

Diving Equipment

A diving suit, mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, lamps (batteries separated and protected to avoid short circuits) and an empty tank. The equipment must be packed in a bag. The maximum weight for diving equipment is 20 Kg. If the equipment is heavier but within a limit of 32kg, it will be considered as “MEDIUM” baggage.

“MEDIUM” baggage:

• Surfboards, kite surf
• One surfboard or a kite surf not exceeding a length of 2 meters. Surfboards longer than 2 meters are classified as windsurfing boards, they will be considered as “LARGE” baggage.

“LARGE” baggage:

• Windsurfing boards, Canoes, Kayaks
• The maximum weight allowed for this equipment is 32kg.
• Vaulting pole
• Maximum dimensions authorized for this equipment are 525cm x 12cm x 12cm

As the carriers liability is limited to a sum considerably less than the value of the above items, we strongly recommend to passengers intending to travel with such equipment to ensure that their home or travel insurance covers the replacement value of any valuable items of checked baggage.

Other Forms of Special Baggage
If you are travelling with bicycles, ski equipment, golf equipment, windsurfing equipment, surfboards, vaulting poles, musical instruments, or any item that would be considered "Special Baggage." these items must be booked in advance.
